A range of sandy beaches, some of them empty even in Summer, are just down the road. Rousalka (former Club Med resort) is only 15 minutes, the marina at Kavarna with beach and cafes is about the same distance or, if you wish for an unspoilt beach to yourself, Krapets is 25 minutes away.

The bullrush lined lakes of Shabla and Durankulak conservation areas are north on the road to the Romanian border.

The picture book harbour town of Balchik, often called the French riviera of the Black Sea, is a little further down the coast and the ideal spot to go out for that special meal or to spend a romantic evening. If it's night life you're looking for the up-market tourist resort of Albena is next down the coast.

Finally Cape Kaliakra with its spectacular views across the Black Sea is also famous as a conservation area for wild flowers.
